Patterson Vase
This vase was thoughtfully shaped and carved by hand in my Chicago studio as a vessel made for growing beauty from within. It’s designed specifically for forcing bulbs — a way to enjoy dramatic blooms indoors, even when the garden sleeps. Forcing is the process of encouraging a dormant bulb to bloom ahead of its natural outdoor season by giving it just the right support and water conditions.
The vase’s tall, narrow neck and stable base cradle an amaryllis bulb or several tulip or daffodil bulbs while giving space for roots to grow. Simply nestle your bulbs at the top, add water below, and watch shoots emerge and rise — a quiet, seasonal ritual that brings spring into the heart of your home.
The vase can also be used to hold flowers as the holes make for a perfect flower frog to make arranging easier.
Finished in a soft warm white glaze with toasty highlights to reveal the subtle textures of hand carving, this piece functions both as a purposeful bulb vase and a sculptural object in its own right. When not in use for forcing, it complements cut stems, bud branches, or stands solo as a moment of calm in your space.
• Handmade ceramic — wheel thrown and hand carved
• Designed for bulb forcing — especially amaryllis and similar large bulbs
• Warm, tactile glaze that varies gently from piece to piece
• Height & dimensions: [add details]
• Made in Chicago
8 × 6.5 inches
A vessel for tending blooms, for savoring slow growth, and for bringing unexpected color into the seasons.
